Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close DVD Review
Although this film
starts off really slow and takes about an hour to get into, don’t turn it off
as by the end of it you’ll have a tear in your eye.
If you was initially
going to watch this film because it starred Sandra Bullock in her usual
romantic role or Tom Hanks in another Forest Gump role then you will be
thoroughly disappointed to find out that both aren’t in it as much as you would
have hoped.
Tom Hanks less than
Sandra Bullock as he’s only in it for what the first half hour.
Despite this however,
there acting is still amazing. Less so than newcomer Thomas Horn however who at
just nine years old does a superb job playing Oskar, a nine year old shy boy
who goes on a quest to find the lock to a key that his father (Tom Hanks) left
him before he died in the 9/11 on September 2001, in order for him to gain more
confidence and face his fears.
Throughout the film
we follow Oskar on his quest as he goes around New York City meeting many people along the
way in helping him to find the lock and feel closer to his father.
While on his quest
Oskar meets Max Von Sydow`s character, a renter in Oskar’s grandmothers
apartment who we later realise has more connections with Oskar and his family
than we would have thought. Max Von Sydow`s character helps Oskar on his
journey and helps him face his fears in order to reach the climax of the film
which will likely bring a tear to your eye.
All in all the film
was very well shot and a good watch, although likely a film that will have more
of an impact on an American audience because of the issue of 9/11.
Thomas Horn is
definitely one to watch.
