NTAs,Uni Life & Les Mis

NTAs,Uni Life & Les Mis <3
So as promised here is my account of the 2013 National Television Awards.
Let me start by saying that it certainly didnt beat last years NTAS as last year i had a purpose to go. As i just wrote that line one of Tom Hiddleston`s lines in The Avengers sprung to mind. `I am Loki of Asgard and i am burderned with glorious purpose` i swear he is taking over my life. Anyway back to the post.

Last years post can be found here: http://downtonabbeyfan.tumblr.com/post/16537578912/national-television-awards-2012-best-day-of-my-life
It certainly wont beat the 2012 NTAs purely because i had the purpose of giving the cast of Downton Abbey the fanbook i made plus i got a wink off Allen Leech and nothing can beat that.

Okay so getting back to this year. With my friend Lucy having started university last September i didnt think i would get the chance to go the NTAs this year and i certainly wouldnt have gone without her as it seemed it had become a tradition.
Since Lucy is now studying Film and Television at Brunel University in Uxbridge(just outside London) we decided it would be easier for me to go and spend a few nights with Lucy instead of me having to go home straight afterwards. That way i also got to experience uni life myself in prep for September.
With snow having fallen a few days before i was supposed to meet Lucy at Victoria i didnt think i would be able to go as the train to Victoria wasnt working. Luckily enough the fast train to St Pancras was and Lucy said that it would be easier for her to meet me at St Pancras anyway.
We arranged to meet each other at the station at 6:30pm on the Tuesday evening. I boarded the 4:45 train to St Pancras from Dover Priory(for the first time on my own) which arrived in London at 5:47. Lucy text me just as i was about to arrive in London letting me know she was going to be late as she had gotten held up at uni and that she would be there at 6:30. That was typical of Lucy she was never one to be on time bless her.
When i arrived at St Pancras i went and had a browse in WHSmiths at the magazines. Total Film to be exact and got excited when i found out that Moulin Rouge was to be rereleased in cinemas for Valentines Day. As soon as i found out i text my friend Hannah (a fellow Moulin Rouge and Ewan McGregor fan and a friend i met at the premiere of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen back in April of last year). I then went and sat in Starbucks where i ordered a hot chocolate and watched the world go by. Lots of different people, men in suits, women and families with suitcases. I wonder where they`re going i thought.
Lucy arrived around 6:45 hugging me and apologising. She then said that she didnt want to go back yet as she had only just arrived. Instead we went and had a wonder around the station, for those who dont know St Pancras its a really big station with lots of shops and places to eat. There is also a statue from one of my favourite films, Brief Encounter which i hadnt seen which we went and looked at.
A huge statue at the back of the station of a couple kissing with a clock above it. The amount of detail in that statue is amazing. Once we looked at the statue we decided to go and sit down and decide where we wanted to explore.
We decided on Picadilly Circus as Lucy hadnt been there. I told her it was more beautiful at night with it all lite up and reminded me of Britannia High as there was a scene in the show where two of the characters, Danny and Lauren danced infront of it. It was truly beautiful at night and Lucy couldn`t believe her eyes. We then took a walk to Leicester Square, one of myfavourite places to go in London as that is where all the premieres are held. We then went into Pizza Hut and split a pizza before heading back to Uxbridge.
It took around 50 minutes to get back to Uxbridge. We arrived back at around 10:30. Lucy said that she needed to get milk so when we got out of the station we went to Tesco, which turned out to be closed. We then took the bus back to Brunel. The good thing about buses in London is that you can use your Oyster card to save you paying. Another great thing about buses in London, or Uxbridge atleast is that they speak and let you know the destination. I got a bit excited when i found that out, even more so when it told us we had arrived at Brunel University.
Lucy`s room was cosy but smal. It done the trick however and she had decorated it with pieces of home. Pictures of friends and family and all her DVDs. She handed me my belated Christmas present, a Tom Hiddleston calendar i had told her i wanted. It was beautiful and now hangs proudly in my room. We then set up the campbed, got dressed in our pjs and watched a bit of FRIENDS before drifitng off to sleep around 2:30.
We set our alarm for 7 the next mornning to be up and out for 9. It was such an effort to get up, although not half as bad as last year where we had to get the 6:20 National Expres. We managed however, getting dressed and ready for the day before heading to the Costa on campus to grab tea and a pain au chocolat before heading back to her room, eating and heading out to the 02 at around 11.
Arriving at the 02 for 12 we went and found our way to where the wristbands were going to be given out. Last year we had to wait in a long line going along the `street` of the arena before going into where they were being handed. This year however we got straight into the que to get given them. We waited only 2 and a half hours this year whereas last year we waited about 5. I lined up whilst Lucy went to the go and get us both Starbucks. She came back and we waite until the wristbands were handed out at 2:30 before going for some lunch at TGI Fridays.
Lunch was delicious! Again, for those who dont know, TGI Fridays is an American restaurant with guitars and all things American hung from the walls. Its truly amazing! After we had eaten we went to the que waiting until 5:15 before we were escorted out into the freezing cold where the red carpet was going to be held.
Although we were all given numbers on our wristbands as soon as we got outside people decided to disrespect that fact and ran to get to the front of the barrier. Unfortuntely we werent lucky enough to get to the front this year, but i wasnt too bothered as i didnt have any responsibilty like last year so i could just enjoy it.
I also had my new camera i got for christmas, the new Samsung Galaxy so i got quite a few good photos. Unfortunately none with anyone as we couldnt see that well but still some equally good photos. Especially of Mcfly. The album of photos is below.

We saw many celebrities from the TV world including Richard Arnold, Tess Daley,Holly Willloghby, Phillip Scholfield,Keith Lemon,Sophie McShera,Hugh Bonneville,Sheridan Smith,Daniel Mays aswell as the cast of Eastenders,Emmerdale and Coronation Street.
I still cant help but wonder what it would be like over the other side in the press pen though, asking the questions and being seen at a professional level rather than a fan. Hopefully i`ll find out soon.
We decided against going to the show this year as it seemed like a long time to sit. Instead we got the train back to Brunel, listening to Mcfly on the wayas myself and Lucy both got very excited when we saw them as they were both one of our favourite bands growing up.
My mum text me on the way back letting me know who had won so far. Even though i wanted Sheridan Smith to win Best Actress for her role in Mrs Biggs i was glad that Mirands Hart won it as i am also a fan of hers. Downton Abbey also won which i was happy about. I only wish i had gotten the chance to chat to Sophie McShera again and get a proper picture of Hugh Bonneville as the ones i got were only of the side of his face. Oh well there`s always next year.
We got back just in time to catch the last half an hour of the show. I then uploaded my photos straight to facebook (that was one of the bonuses about the new Samsung, you can upload photos straight to social networking sites once youve taken them )before chatting with Lucy and going to sleep.
I awoke at a reasonable hour the next morning as i had to leave and get home to go to the job centre. Lucy made me a cup of tea(we got back in time to get milk before Tesco closed this time) before getting the bus with me to the station. It was lovely spending those few days with her.
I arrived back at St Pancras around 10:45, had a quick browse in Foyers bookshop as i always did and went and got a sandwich from Boots before heading up to the platform to wait for my train to pull in. It pulled in a few minutes later. I boarded and got back to Dover at 12:30.
The NTAs and the few days i spent with Lucy were lovely and have made me even more nervous, yet excited for uni in September.

On Friday myself and my friend Becky had arranged to go and see Les Miserable at the cinema. We met in Folkestone at 12, grabbed a spot of lunch in the Asda cafe, had a catch up about what we had both been up to before browisng Waterstones(we both love books. She lent me a book called Hush Hush about a fallen Angel which i started and finised within a few days).
We then went back into Asda and bought some sweets before making our way to the cinema. After waiting about 15 minutes the doors opened and we were allowed inside. We purcharsed our tickets before taking our seats in the second screen of the cinema. The smaller screen that looked as though you had gone back in time to the 1920s, it was truly beautiful, pictures of old film stars hung from the walls. It reminded me of when i went to see Midnight in Paris at Dover cinema back in July last year where i first discovered Tom Hiddleston. A truly magical moment.
The film started a few minutes later and we were taken back in time to the start of the French Revolution. Ten minutes in and i was crying. I cried three times throughout the film, the scene in which Anne Hathaway sung `I Dreamed a Dream`, the scene where Isabelle Allen sang `Castle on a Cloud` and the end scene, which i wont ruin for those who havent seen it.
A film that truly pulls at your heartstrings. It is truly beautiful, a wonderful, magnifcent piece of cinema. You can certainly see why they are nominated and up for so many awards. They certainly deserve them!

I orginally planned to have a chilled weekend but my friend from school,Sophie, updated her Facebook status to say that she was in Dover if anyone wanted to meet up. I replied back saying I would love to as I wanted to see what she thought of some ideas and outline of a few of my fanfictions and wanted to catch up with her.
We met outside Costa at 12 and enjoyed a catchup over a hot chocolate and bakewel slice. It was lovely to see her as i hadnt since before Christmas. We put the world to rights before going our seperate ways.
All in all it has been a fun and busy week filled with The NTAs, Uni Life, Friends and Les Mis. <3
